O living water, O child of the child, O Glorious name!
“O living Aeon, Living One who sees the Aeons! Who is eternally eternal!
“You are what you are, You are who you are!
“You who lives in the heart, This great name of yours upon me, O self-begotten. Perfect one, who is not outside me. I see you, O you who are visible to everyone.
“For who will be able to comprehend you in another language? Now that I have known you, I have mixed myself with the unchangeable. I have armed myself with an armor of light; I have become light!
“For the Mother was at the place because of the splendid beauty of grace. Therefore, I have stretched out my hands while they were folded.
“I was shaped in the circle of the riches of Light which is in my bosom, which gives shape to the many begotten ones in the Light into which no complaint reaches. I will declare your glory truly, for I have comprehended you.
“O God of Silence! I honor you completely,
“You are my place of rest, O formless one who exists in the formless ones, who IS, raising up the man in whom you will purify me into your life, according to your imperishable Name.
“Therefore, the incense of life is in me. I mixed it with water after the model of the archons, in order that I may live with you in peace of the Holy Ones, you who ARE, really truly forever.” ~ The Gospel Of The Egyptians
Living Water
When the writers of scripture talk of living water, it is another way of saying God’s Grace or God’s Light. In this case, the writer is probably referring to Jesus, but not as the man Jesus, but as the eternal spirit Christ. Or he may be talking about God the Father, it isn’t clear.
Living Aeon
Christ is an eternal Spirit, therefore an eternal being with no beginning and no end. Really more than a living Aeon. More like all Aeons in one. The point is that Christ was not born with Jesus and did not die with him, Christ is eternal.
You who Live in the Heart
It is pretty common for scripture writers to speak of the heart when they mean the Divine Soul. The Divine lives in our eternal soul, not the physical heart.
Comprehend in Another Language
The human mind cannot communicate with the divine because human language is not Divine language. The soul can understand God and the angels because the soul “speaks” and understands the same language, which is symbols and geometric shapes. The story of the Tower of Babel is really about man’s loss of his connection to the Divine causing him to develop human language.
I Have Mixed with the Unchangeable
The ultimate goal of all true spiritual development is to become one with God, one with the All. That is what is meant here. Few, if any, achieve this during their short life on earth, but they may experience it for a few brief moments during spiritual practices.
One in the Light
The writer of this gospel says he is “one with the Light,” has “become Light,” and was “shaped in the circle of Light.” Clearly, he understands that Light is important for spiritual development, especially the Light from God that comes to us through the Spiritual Sun.
